The History of The Place
The Place Apartment Hotel, Manchester, originally known as 'The London Warehouse' is a remarkable grade 2 listed building that has remained prominent in the heart of the City for over 100 years.
"During the 1840's the London Road station was built on what is now the Piccadilly station site. Between 1857 and 1867 there was a great deal of development here and four large warehouse buildings were built. Today however only the London Warehouse still survives.
The building is 180 feet square and seven stories high.
"In the London warehouse the interior is dominated by massive cast iron columns supporting large riveted wrought iron box girders, which in turn carry cast floor joints measuring 17 feet by 17 feet. The number of columns was reduced by using wrought iron girders to carry several joists, permitting the large uninterrupted floor space necessary for the movement of cloth."

The Warehouse was used to store cloth brought in by canal from mills across the North West , before being transported by rail all over the country.
Later to be owned by Great Central the warehouse remained in use until the 1960's when London Road station made way for Piccadilly.
The warehouse was then left vacant for over 30 years until we bought it and invested over £16 million in redeveloping the stunning building into 'The Place Apartment Hotel, Manchester'.
